What is DSL?
Digital Subscriber Line (DSL) is
an always-on-internet connection that ends in a socket on
your wall, that (looks much like a phone socket) and, for
the popular residential DSL,
(ADSL), the same housewiring carries
both phone calls and data! DSL is billed per month for a fixed
price for unlimited usage. In other words, whether you use
it for checking news headlines once a day, monitor your e-mail
and stock portfolio or download software constantly, your
bill is always the same.
Once you have a DSL line, you can
use all the resources of the internet, in the same way as
you did from a regular modem. The major difference is you
can use them 24hrs, with no connection delay, without any
'username' and 'password', busy signal or any connection/disconnection
process.
The key advantage of DSL over modem
is speed. DSL is from several, to dozens, of times faster
than a modem connection. A complex web page that could take
up to a minute to finish loading, can appear in just seconds
over DSL. Internet connection speed, and reliability, are
the main reasons you would want DSL service from ODG.
What does DSL mean for me?
At home or at the office, DSL gives you great data transmission
speed for a reasonable price. In addition, it is a constant
connection so you have access to the Internet and e-mail 24/7.
There is no need to dial each time you want to get on-line.
What are the limitations of DSL?
DSL availability
depends on the physical distance of your location from a Central
Office and availability of the service by local phone companies
in your area. But with DSL technology developing this rapidly,
new locations will be introduced soon and that efforts will
be made to improve the transmission over greater distances.
Please contact ODG to discuss
your DSL possibilities. Our representatives can assess whether
DSL is available in your town and if you are within the proper
range of the Central Office.
